BT Young Scientists

4th, 5th & 6th class girls were delighted to receive a visit today from Ella Donegan and Cliodhna Prendergast, TY students of Colaiste na Toirbhirte Secondary School. They recently received a highly commended ribbon in the Intermediate group “Behavioural and Psychological” category at the BT Young Scientists competition in Dublin earlier this month. They gave our girls a very informative talk on their project which was titled “An investigation into the effect of social motivation, attention and physical effort on competition”. Well done Ella and Cliodhna.👏👏👏

Maths Week 12th – 20th October 2019

Last Week as part of Maths Week 4th class did a maths trail. The children used a map of the school & grounds to solve mathematical questions. They had great fun working together to solve the problems and used a wide variety of mathematical skills while doing so.

As part of Active Schools Week some of our classes were lucky enough to participate in cycling lessons with Uilick O’Beirne. This was funded by Cork Sports Partnership as part of “Cork Bike Week”. A big thank you to Uilick for the lessons.

2nd class had a super morning playing rugby with Bronson. He had a very special visitor with him today, his sister Stacey Waaka who plays rugby for the New Zealand Black Ferns rugby team. We would like to thank Bronson for all his work since October. We look forward to seeing our girls playing for Ireland in the future. Thanks for the inspiration Bronson and Stacey.👏👏👏😃

We were delighted to have Garda Michael Dunne from the local Roads Policing Unit visit our 6th Class today. We made posters with the aim of highlighting road safety in the run up to Christmas. Our wonderful work will be featured as part of An Garda Síochána’s road safety awareness campaign.
